Do you have close family members that still live outside of Australia? If so, they might be eligible to apply for a visa through Australia’s Family Migration Scheme.
There’s no reason to stay apart if your loved ones meet the criteria for migration. If you’re an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or an eligible citizen of New Zealand, you have several options for bringing your family home to live with you here in Australia. The most familiar among them is the partner visa.
- The Partner Visa (subclasses 820 and 801)
Spouses or de facto partners of Australian citizens and permanent residents, as well as certain New Zealand citizens, can apply for temporary residency status in Australia. This visa is the first step towards permanent residency (visa subclass 801) for spouses and partners.
There’s only one application form and one fee for the entire process, making it easier on your budget and time. Applicants must apply from within Australia and be there when the visa is granted. In some cases, former partners, too, can apply for this visa.
If you’re not an Australian citizen or permanent resident but are instead here on your own visa, then your family may be able to join you either as a subsequent entrant or by applying for their own visa.
Some visas which allow a subsequent entrant include the Student visa (subclass 500), Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489), and the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188).
